Tatiana Schlossberg, the daughter of Caroline Kennedy, has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, and doctors are giving her a year to live. She has received bone-marrow transplants, and is hanging on to her life. Her article in The New Yorker (see here) takes RFK, Jr. to task for the medical reforms he has initiated as Secretary of HHS.
She writes: "Bobby cut nearly half a billion dollars for research into mRNA vaccines, technology that could be used against certain cancers; slashed billions in funding from the National Institutes of Health, the world’s largest sponsor of medical research; and threatened to oust the panel of medical experts charged with recommending preventive cancer screenings."
Also: "I was ready for a [bone marrow] transplant. My sister had turned out to be a match and would donate her stem cells ... I went home after 50 days at Memorial Sloan Kettering. The transplant had put me in remission, but I had no immune system, and would have to get all my childhood vaccines again. I started a new round of chemotherapy to keep the cancer at bay. I relapsed."
